biography
Freema Agyeman was born in North London, UK in 1979. She resided and grew up in Woodbury Down Estate in Finsbury Park. She has an Iranian mother and a Ghanaian father, Azar and Osei, whom sepereated when Freema was a small child. However she has remained close to both of her parents as they still live withing range of each other. Freema has two siblings - an older sister Leila and a younger brother Domenic. Before she landed her role on Doctor Who Freema just had met her boyfriend.Education wise, Freema attended a Catholic school, Our Lady's Convent, in Stamford Hill for her secondary school years and attended Anna Scher Theatre School in 1996, located in Islington. In 1998, she took theater courses in Radford University in Virginia, United States and graduated with a BA Honors in Performing Arts and Drama from Middlesex University in 2000. Some of her skills include Australian and Liverpudlian accents, basic martial arts and horseback riding.
Freema's career has certainly expanded from working at a Blockbuster and a volunteer box office assistant, to working on-screen herself. Her first noteable role was "Lola Wise" on the ITV soap opera Crossroads. She is most known for playing "Martha Jones" on the classic cult smash Doctor Who as the tenth Doctor's companion (David Tennant). Recently she has also made an appearance on the popular Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood where she resumed the role of "Martha Jones" working at the UNIT as a Medical Officer. Freema is also narrating BBC3's Bizarre ER.
